Hobart Bosworth

Born 11 August 1867 in Marietta, Ohio, USA, as Hobart Van Zandt Bosworth.
Died 30 December 1943 in Glendale, California, USA, of pneumonia.

Married actress Adele Farrington, 10 October 1902; divorced 1919;
son, George Hobart Bosworth, born 27 December 1918.
Married Cecile Kibre Percival, 22 December 1920; until Hobart’s death, 30 December 1943.

Hobart Bosworth left home at an early age and worked years of odd jobs as a merchant mariner, a ranchhand, a miner, a boxer and wrestler, and eventually as a stage actor in Augustin Daly’s theatre company in New York. His stage career was threatened by his having contracted tuberculosis, an ailment he would struggle with seveal times throughout his life. The disease considerably weakened his voice, which forced Bosworth to give up the stage.

Bosworth began work in motion pictures for The Selig Polyscope Company, Incorporated, in 1908. Over the years, Hobart would become a leading man, a writer, a director, and a producer, having established his own production companies, Hobart Bosworth Productions and Bosworth, Incorporated.

In his long cinematic career, Bosworth appeared in nearly 300 films.
