This DVD edition was prepared from a 35mm restoration print, which has a number of issues including dust, speckling, schmutz, sprocket damage, scrapes, and other print flaws. The source material appears to be at least one duplicate generation from an original release print as the picture in this edition is on the soft side. Perhaps a future HD release will prove that this material is actually sharper than it appears here.
The film is accompanied by a music score composed and performed by Bruce Bennett and Paul Mercer.
Supplmentary material includes a video introduction by historian Peter Cowie, covering Erotikon and the careers of Mauritz Stiller and Victor Sjöström (19 minutes); a brief Stiller biography; and a Stiller filmography.
This is our recommended home video edition of the film for North American collectors.
